John ate the scroll containing the word from God. This should always be the preacher’s process, to first “eat” the Word before proclaiming it. The Word needs to have its effect on the prophet before repeating it to others.

“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.” (Revelation 4:11)

What John the Revelator heard the 24 elders saying to the Lord as they lay down their crowns at His feet in worship. The elders represent the 12 tribes + the 12 disciples. Together, they represent the church complete, for Jesus has made both Jew and Gentile one in Him. They acknowledge the Lord as both Creator and Architect. For God not only created, He designed what He created. And it pleased Him, for He saw that “it was good” (Gen. 1:31). He made you because He wanted you. You are wanted.

“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” (Revelation 3:15-16)

John had a vision of the Lord Jesus in all His glory on a Sunday morning while exiled on the Isle of Patmos. This happened while John was worshiping on the Lord’s Day. May we encounter Christ in our worship this Sunday morning too!

“Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done” (Revelation 22:12)

What the Lord Jesus declares to John can reframe our thinking as we approach a new year. Ask yourself: Am I ready for Jesus to come in 2012? Where am I seeking reward- here or with Him? What will I do for Jesus in 2012 that will require great risk?

“I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life” (Revelation 20:12)

The Great White Throne judgment is here described. As we approach the end of 2011, we should consider God’s approaching judgment. Only those whose name is in the Lamb’s Book of Life will enter into everlasting life.

“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony” (Revelation 12:11)

How the evil one is overcome. Stand firm in the salvation which was purchased with Christ’s blood. Remember and proclaim the word of testimony of what the Lord has done for you. Christ has already won the victory. Remind the dragon of this and he will flee from you.

“The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea” (Revelation 8:8)

What did John see? It sounds like a volcano doesn’t it? John used the word pictures he knew to describe what he saw. He prophesies a day when volcanoes erupt and meteors (see “Wormwood”) fall from the sky. This is not sci-fi. It’s the end times.

“Day and night they never stop saying: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come’” (Revelation 4:8)

John witnesses the worship of Heaven. I wonder if he realized that one of the 24 thrones surrounding the throne of the Lord was his? Twelve for the tribes of Israel and twelve for the Lord’s disciples. Our worship now is rehearsal for this.

“I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name” (Revelation 3:8)

This sounds like WCC. God keeps trusting us with open door opportunities, while we are little in strength (numbers, money, influence). Let’s keep on preaching the Word and the Name.
