THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS POINT TO CHRIST

“And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah” (Luke 9:29–30 ESV).

Luke recounted the transfiguration of Jesus before Peter, James, and John. As Jesus prayed, His appearance was transformed, revealing His divine glory as the Son of God. Luke described Moses and Elijah appearing with Him, representing the Law and the Prophets, the full witness of the Old Testament. Their presence showed continuity with God’s prior revelation. Their appearance validated that all Scripture pointed to Jesus and found its fulfillment in Him. Luke later recorded that they spoke with Jesus about His coming “departure,” using the Greek word exodos. This pointed back to Israel’s Exodus and revealed that Jesus would accomplish a greater redemption through His death in Jerusalem.

We can see clearly who Jesus is. He is not merely a teacher or prophet, but the divine Son of God. We are reminded that Scripture points to Him. From beginning to end, God’s Word directs us to Christ as its fulfillment. We can understand what He came to do. Jesus did not come only to reveal truth, but to accomplish a saving “exodus” through the cross, delivering us from sin and death. Therefore, we can read the Bible, seeing Christ at the center, as the Hero of the Story. We can trust in His finished work and submit to His authority over every part of our lives. When we rightly understand that the Law and the Prophets point to Christ, our faith is strengthened and our worship deepened.

PRAYER: Dear Father, we praise You for revealing Your Son to us. Thank You that all of Scripture points us to Jesus and that He has accomplished our redemption through His saving work on the cross. Help us to see Christ clearly in Your Word, to trust Him fully, and to live under His authority. Fix our hearts on Him as the fulfillment of all Your promises. In Jesus’ name, amen.
