OUR LONG ANTICIPATED SALVATION IS HERE!

“Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully” (1 Peter 1:10 ESV).

Peter reminded his readers that our salvation did not originate in the New Testament era, but was long anticipated by the prophets of old. They prophesied about the grace that would one day be revealed in Christ, though they did not fully understand how or when God would accomplish it. They diligently searched and inquired, longing to see its fulfillment. Yet, they realized they were not serving themselves, but future generations who would one day receive this grace. Even the angels marveled at what God was preparing, looking with holy curiosity upon His redemptive plan (v.12). Thus, the salvation we now enjoy in Christ is the privileged fulfillment of what the prophets predicted and the angels witnessed but did not experience. Our salvation is the outcome of a divine plan long foretold and now revealed in Jesus.

We often take salvation for granted, treating it casually rather than as the precious gift it is. Yet the prophets longed to understand it and the angels marvel at it. Therefore, as Peter continued, we should respond by preparing our minds for action and being sober-minded (v.13). Let us set our hope fully on the grace that will be brought to us at Christ’s return. We should no longer conform to our former passions, but live as obedient children, pursuing holiness in all our conduct (vv.14-15). Since we have received this privileged salvation, let us walk in gratitude, hope, and holiness, honoring the One who has called us.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, we thank You that the salvation we have received in Christ was anticipated by the prophets and marveled at by the angels. Forgive us when we treat it lightly. Help us to prepare our minds for action, to be sober-minded, and to live holy lives that reflect Your grace. Strengthen us by Your Spirit to walk in obedience and hope. In Jesus’ name, amen.
