In today’s OYB reading Elisha (“El” – God; “sha” – saves/salvation) raised a child from the dead, multiplied a meal with leftovers, healed a leper, and was disappointed by a greedy disciple. Who else in the Bible does this sound like? Elisha is a clear foreshadowing of Christ. God was preparing His people for Jesus (“Je” – Jehovah; “sus” – saves/salvation).

“Elisha answered, ‘Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the LORD says: They will eat and have some left over’” (2 Kings 4:43)

In this chapter Elisha raises the dead and feeds a multitude. His name means “God is salvation.” His life along with his precursor, Elijah, point to the ministries of John the Baptist and Jesus. He prepares Israel to recognize Christ.
