“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:27 ESV).
Two disheartened disciples walked away from Jerusalem on the road to Emmaus, weighed down by sorrow and confusion. Their hopes in Jesus seemed buried with Him. Yet, as they walked, the risen Christ Himself drew near. Though they didn’t recognize Him at first, He took them on the greatest Bible study ever taught—starting with Moses and moving through the Prophets, He explained how all of Scripture pointed to Him. Their hearts burned within them as He opened their minds and lifted their eyes to see the truth.
Reading this account in Luke, I often wish I could have been there myself, walking that dusty road, listening to Jesus connect the dots between the Law, the Prophets, and His suffering and resurrection. But here’s our living hope: the same Spirit of Christ who walked that road now walks with us. We may not see Him with our eyes, but we can still hear Him speaking to us in His Word. His Spirit opens the Scriptures to us as we seek Him with surrendered hearts and expectant minds.
Let us come to the Word daily—not out of duty, but out of desire—to see Jesus revealed from Genesis to Revelation. The more we linger in the Word, the more we’ll learn of Christ. The more we listen for His voice, the more our hearts will burn with understanding and joy. Christ is still opening minds and setting hearts aflame. Let us learn to listen for His voice as we read and study His Word.
PRAYER: Dear Father, how we long to walk that road to Emmaus with Your Son. But even more, we long for Your Spirit to walk with us today. Thank You that You still opens our minds to understand the Scriptures. Help us seek You in every page, listen to You in every passage, and love You more through every promise. Cause our hearts to burn within us as You reveal Yourself in the Word. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
