ABUNDANT LIFE IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING

“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” (Psalm 27:13–14 ESV).

David concluded this psalm with a strong affirmation of faith. Even though he had previously expressed fear of abandonment and cried out for deliverance, he declared his confidence that he would see the Lord’s goodness during his lifetime. “The land of the living” pointed to the present world, not merely to life after death. He exhorted himself—and others—to wait for the Lord with strength and courage. The repetition of the word “wait” emphasized the need for patient trust. His final words recalled the language God spoke to Joshua, calling for strength that comes from relying on the Lord.

This hope-filled conclusion reminds us of the words of Christ in John 10:10, where Jesus promised not only eternal life, but abundant life that begins now. God’s goodness is available today for those who believe.

We often face trials that tempt us to despair, but like David, we can choose to live by faith. We believe that the goodness of the Lord is not only a future hope, but a present reality. Christ came to give us abundant life, a life full of His love, joy, and peace, even in the midst of difficulty.

Let us remind our hearts to wait for the Lord. Let us draw strength and courage from His promises. We do not wait in vain, because the Lord is faithful. As we look to Him today, we can live with bold faith in the land of the living.

PRAYER: Dear Father, thank You that we can look upon Your goodness even now. Strengthen our hearts to wait for You with confidence and courage. Help us to live each day by faith in Your promises and to walk in the abundant life Christ came to give. In Jesus’ name, amen.
