ARE YOU GUIDED BY GODLY COUNSEL?

“Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.” (Proverbs 15:22 ESV).

This proverb teaches us that success is often found by those who humbly seek the wise counsel of others. When we act independently without guidance, we are prone to missteps. But when we surround ourselves with wise, godly advisers, our plans are strengthened by their insight. This verse assumes that good counsel is not random but comes from people who know God’s ways and walk in them. The path to success is not found in isolation but in collaboration rooted in godly wisdom and prayer.

It is not wise to make major decisions on our own. Instead, we ought to cultivate a personal board of advisers—believers who are spiritually mature and walking closely with the Lord. These are people who will speak truth to us even when it is uncomfortable and who will join us in prayer as we seek God’s will. When we are faced with choices, whether big or small, we must be intentional about reaching out to them. We must also be humble enough to listen, weighing their counsel against Scripture, and be willing to follow through. Seeking wise counsel is a mark of spiritual maturity, not weakness. It helps align our plans with God’s purposes and reminds us that we are not meant to walk this journey alone.

PRAYER: Dear Father, thank You for the gift of wise and godly people in our lives. Help us to seek their counsel with humility and discernment. Teach us to value spiritual maturity and surround ourselves with those who walk closely with You. Give us hearts that are open to correction and direction, and remind us to pray together with our advisers as we seek Your will. May we never rely on our own understanding, but always trust You to lead us through wise counsel. In Jesus’ name, amen.
