In Jewish tradition, it is often attributed to Esther’s cousin, Mordecai, but it contains no autograph. The events described in the book occurred in 483–473 BC and the book was written soon after. It’s a very unique book. First, it’s one of only two books in the Bible named after women: Ruth and Esther. Second, it’s the only book in the Bible that doesn’t mention God a single time!
So, why’s it in the Bible? Because even though God’s name is absent, His hand isn’t! You can see God working behind the scenes throughout the story. In this series we will pull a few of these Christmas classics and show how their redemptive themes point to the larger Christmas meaning. As we look at Elf, Scrooge, and Grinch we will see how the themes in these movies point to the salvation and redemption through Jesus Christ.

Do you ever feel like an exile? They want something real. And they have a deep seated need for relationships, for community. Whether they recognize it or not, God has made all of us with a deep desire for a relationship with Him and with one another. We long for authentic community. In the book of Acts, Luke described the “authentic community” of the first century church. He said they were marked by four “devotions.” They were: a shared faith, a shared family, a shared food, and a shared focus.
