Some call this a parable, but it is no parable. A parable, according to the dictionary, &#8220;is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels.&#8221; The Greek word, p\u00e4r\u00e4bol\u0101&#8217; (\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03b2\u03bf\u03bb\u1fc7 ), literally means &#8220;to throw beside.&#8221; So, a parable is a simple story that &#8220;throws&#8221; or points to a deeper, spiritual truth. The rich man and Lazarus story does not follow this pattern.
