{"id":14569,"date":"2026-09-24T06:59:21","date_gmt":"2026-09-24T10:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.garycombs.org\/blog\/?post_type=oyb&#038;p=14569"},"modified":"2026-09-24T06:59:21","modified_gmt":"2026-09-24T10:59:21","slug":"theres-no-one-like-god","status":"publish","type":"oyb","link":"https:\/\/www.garycombs.org\/blog\/oyb\/theres-no-one-like-god","title":{"rendered":"THERE&#8217;S NO ONE LIKE GOD"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me\u201d (Isaiah 45:5 ESV).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isaiah spoke these words to Israel concerning Cyrus, the future king of Persia whom God would raise up to conquer Babylon and release His people from exile. Remarkably, God said that He would \u201cequip\u201d Cyrus even though Cyrus did not know Him. The Hebrew word translated \u201cequip\u201d carried the idea of girding someone for action, as a soldier would fasten his belt in preparation for battle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before Cyrus was even born, God knew Cyrus. And He planned to use this pagan ruler to accomplish His sovereign purpose for His people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the heart of the verse stands God\u2019s repeated declaration: \u201cI am the LORD, and there is no other.\u201d He alone is God, and He rules over kings, nations, circumstances, and the course of history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We often exhaust ourselves trying to control circumstances and guarantee outcomes through our own strength and wisdom. In subtle ways, we begin acting as though we can take God\u2019s place. Anxiety grows because we try to carry responsibilities that belong to Him alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually, faith brings us back to this simple confession: He\u2019s God, and I\u2019m not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That does not mean we become passive. We still are called to plan, work, and make wise decisions, but we learn to leave the results with God. We can trust Him when we cannot trace His hand and rest in Him rather than living under the crushing burden of trying to control everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Christ, we see the answer for He invites burdened, weary people to come to Him saying, \u201cCome to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest\u201d (Matt. 11:28).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can lay our anxious laboring and attempts at controlling outcomes down at the feet of Jesus and rest in the One who sovereignly holds us and our circumstances in His hands. We can recognize that He is the Lord and there is no other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PRAYER<\/strong>: Dear Father, forgive us for trying to control what belongs to You. Teach us to trust Your wisdom, rest in Your sovereignty, and surrender the outcomes to You. When we are weary from carrying burdens that were never ours to bear, remind us to come to Jesus and find rest in Him.
