Yet he looked ahead to a day when Jacob would once again “take root.” Israel would not merely survive. God would restore His vineyard Israel so that it would blossom, flourish, and accomplish the purpose for which He had planted it.

The most striking promise is that Israel would “fill the whole world with fruit.” This points beyond mere national recovery. God’s purpose for Israel has always included being a blessing to the nations.

That purpose reaches back to God’s promise to Abraham: “in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Gen. 12:3). Through Israel came the Messiah, Jesus Christ, and through Him the gospel has gone out to the Gentiles. In that sense, Isaiah’s worldwide fruitfulness is already being seen.

Yet the promise is not exhausted by the present age. Paul also looked forward to a future work of God in Israel, writing that if Israel’s failure brought “riches for the Gentiles,” then “how much more will their full inclusion mean!” (Rom. 11:12). Isaiah therefore anticipated both worldwide Messianic blessing and a future restoration in which Israel herself will again flourish under God’s saving favor.

Let us rejoice that God always keeps His promises. His faithfulness to Israel assures us of His faithfulness to all who belong to Christ. Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches” and taught that only those who abide in Him can “bear much fruit” (John 15:5). Therefore, let us abide in Christ, so that His life flows through us, producing fruit that blesses others and brings glory to the Father. God’s blessings are never meant to stop with us. Rooted in Christ, we are called to bear fruit that reaches others with the gospel.

This is the worldwide fruit God is producing through His redemptive plan.

PRAYER: Dear Father, thank You that every promise You make is sure. Root us deeply in Christ and make us fruitful for Your kingdom. Use us to carry the gospel to the nations as we await the return of Your Son, Jesus. In His name we pray, amen.

“Jacob shall take root, Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots and fill the whole world with fruit” (Isaiah 27:6 ESV).
