{"id":14536,"date":"2026-09-14T07:02:29","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T11:02:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.garycombs.org\/blog\/?post_type=oyb&#038;p=14536"},"modified":"2026-09-14T07:02:29","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T11:02:29","slug":"surely-gods-justice-will-come","status":"publish","type":"oyb","link":"https:\/\/www.garycombs.org\/blog\/oyb\/surely-gods-justice-will-come","title":{"rendered":"SURELY GOD&#8217;S JUSTICE WILL COME"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSurely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth\u201d (Psalm 58:11 ESV).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">David wrote Psalm 58 against corrupt rulers or judges who had been entrusted with authority but instead used it to \u201cdeal out violence.\u201d The psalm\u2019s severe language of judgment can be difficult for us to read, especially when David described the righteous rejoicing over the downfall of the wicked. Yet the righteous were not rejoicing merely because someone suffered. They rejoiced because evil did not finally win and because God\u2019s justice had prevailed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verse 11 revealed the great question behind the entire psalm. Did God see injustice? Did He care? Would wicked rulers escape accountability forever? David answered with confidence: \u201cSurely there is a God who judges on earth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">David did not call God\u2019s people to take vengeance into their own hands. He called them to entrust judgment to God. This anticipates Paul\u2019s command, \u201cBeloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God\u201d (Rom. 12:19). We can love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us while also praying for God to restrain evil and establish justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we see injustice around us, we may be tempted either to retaliate or to despair. But we need do neither. We can pray for our enemies, seek what is right, defend the oppressed, and leave final judgment in God\u2019s hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the cross, God showed that He does not ignore sin. He judged our sin in Christ so that we might receive mercy. And when Christ returns, He will judge the world in righteousness. Evil will not have the last word. Therefore, even when justice seems delayed, we can live with confidence that surely God\u2019s justice will come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PRAYER<\/strong>: Dear Father, help us trust Your perfect justice when evil seems to prosper. Keep us from both the temptation to take vengeance and to despair. Give us grace to love our enemies while standing for what is right. Thank You that Jesus bore judgment for our sins and will return as righteous King and Judge.
