His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude” (Daniel 10:5–6).

The prophet Daniel wrote to the exiled Jews, recording a vision he received after three weeks of prayer and fasting as he sought the Lord concerning Israel’s troubled condition. In this vision, Daniel saw a glorious figure clothed in linen, whose radiance closely resembled the description of Christ in Revelation 1:13–16. This first figure appears to be the pre-incarnate Christ, followed by an angelic messenger, likely Gabriel, who helped Daniel understand the revelation (Dan. 10:10–21).

However, Daniel’s vision did not immediately answer his questions; instead, it overwhelmed him. His companions fled, his strength left him, and he collapsed in awe and fear (10:7–9). Yet this overwhelming encounter was part of God’s answer. For as the messenger told him, he was “greatly loved” by God for such a revelation of the Messiah’s majesty and glory to be given to him.

Seeing the size of God placed Daniel’s temporal concerns in perspective. The vision prepared him to receive the full revelation with courage, understanding, and assurance that God had not forgotten His people. Sometimes, God’s answer to our deepest questions comes not in answers but in awe—a reminder that He is infinitely bigger than our problems.

We often come to God with pressing questions, burdens, or uncertainties, seeking answers. Yet, we are first invited to consider His overwhelming glory. Seeing Christ, recognizing His rule over the nations, and knowing we are greatly loved gives us a perspective that our circumstances cannot shake. As we lift our eyes to Him, the size of our God shrinks our concerns and anchors our hearts in His truth. Let us respond today by trusting and resting in Him, remembering that our God is bigger than our concerns.

PRAYER: Dear Father, we lift our eyes to behold Your glory. When we come seeking answers, let Your majesty remind us that You reign over all and that we are deeply loved. Help us to trust You with our concerns and to rest in Your eternal power and care. In Jesus’ name, amen.

“I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist.
