While 1 Kings records Abijah’s flaws, 2 Chronicles captures his faithful declaration: Judah had not forsaken the Lord. Abijah called on God’s covenant faithfulness, and the Lord gave Judah a stunning victory. The focus is not on Abijah’s faithfulness, but on the God who keeps His promises. It was God who had not forsaken them.

Life often brings conflict. Sometimes we may feel outnumbered or overwhelmed. But we can always call on the Lord. Even flawed people are heard by our faithful God. Like Abijah, we may have moments of inconsistency, yet we can still cling to the covenant promises of God. And even more, we can look to Christ. For if God “did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Rom. 8:32). As the apostle Paul asks, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31). For God will not forsake us.

PRAYER: Dear Father, thank You that You fight for us. Even when we’re weak or inconsistent, You remain faithful. Thank You for Jesus, our victorious King, who has won the battle we could never win. Help us trust not in ourselves, but in You. When we feel weak and overwhelmed, remind us that You will never forsake us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

“But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him.” (2 Chronicles 13:10a ESV).
