He followed the tactic of his rebellious older brother, Absalom, and started riding around Jerusalem in a chariot with fifty men running <\/span><span data-offset-key=\"9om4q-1-0\">before<\/span><span data-offset-key=\"9om4q-2-0\"> him. As before, David was passive and did nothing to stop his son&#8217;s behavior. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"di69p\" data-offset-key=\"dflm9-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"dflm9-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"dflm9-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"di69p\" data-offset-key=\"d9gqo-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"d9gqo-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"d9gqo-0-0\">Fortunately, Nathan the prophet worked to remind David of his promise to make Solomon king after him. Following a carefully worked out strategy, Nathan and Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon, went to David and helped move him to action. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"di69p\" data-offset-key=\"213lv-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"213lv-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"213lv-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"di69p\" data-offset-key=\"e5hlk-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"e5hlk-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"e5hlk-0-0\">Great leaders don&#8217;t necessarily make great fathers. And they rarely do a good job at preparing their kingdoms or organizations for a smooth and successful succession. Yet, God gave David excellent counselors, such as Nathan, who helped make the transition from David to Solomon the most successful succession in all of Israel&#8217;s history.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"di69p\" data-offset-key=\"3humg-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"3humg-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"3humg-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"di69p\" data-offset-key=\"fc0dc-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"fc0dc-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"fc0dc-0-0\">Starting well is good, but finishing well is even better. May the Lord give us grace to be able to say what the apostle Paul said: &#8220;I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful&#8221; (2 Tim. 4:7).<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"di69p\" data-offset-key=\"4hhls-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"4hhls-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"4hhls-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"di69p\" data-offset-key=\"cmpcb-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"cmpcb-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"cmpcb-0-0\">PRAYER: Dear Father, help us to remain faithful to the end. We want to always live for You even to our last days. Strengthen us when we are tired or discouraged, so that we keep the faith.
