He attended the local synagogue and chose the passage from the Isaiah scroll that spoke of the anointed one or Messiah who would come. <\/span><span data-offset-key=\"8a0g6-1-0\">Having<\/span><span data-offset-key=\"8a0g6-2-0\"> read this passage, he lifted his eyes from the Scripture and instead of offering a rabbi&#8217;s usual commentary, he claimed to be the &#8220;fulfillment&#8221; of Isaiah&#8217;s prophecy. He claimed to be the Christ. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"45i2r\" data-offset-key=\"8d3hn-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8d3hn-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"8d3hn-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"45i2r\" data-offset-key=\"e40d4-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"e40d4-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"e40d4-0-0\">This created quite a stir in the small synagogue. His hometown people rejected his claim saying, \u201cIsn&#8217;t this Joseph&#8217;s son?\u201d Their familiarity with Jesus actually caused them to reject him. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"45i2r\" data-offset-key=\"96pvf-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"96pvf-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"96pvf-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"45i2r\" data-offset-key=\"alu8j-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"alu8j-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"alu8j-0-0\">Is this happening in America, where most are familiar with the story of Jesus, but not many believe in him as Lord and Savior? Even for those who grew up attending church, have they equated knowledge of Jesus with saving faith? Just knowing about Jesus is not enough. Familiarity is not faith.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"45i2r\" data-offset-key=\"b2b1b-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"b2b1b-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"b2b1b-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"45i2r\" data-offset-key=\"bc0ol-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"bc0ol-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"bc0ol-0-0\">PRAYER: Dear Father, we not only know about Jesus, but we have believed in Him as Lord and Savior. We have trusted in His payment on the cross for our sins and His resurrection for our justification. And we have the Spirit of Christ abiding within us, affirming our new status as children of God. We praise You, Father, for the gift of Your Son and of Your Spirit.
