Pilate already suspected that the Jews were acting out of &#8220;envy&#8221; (Mark 15:10), but he was amazed that Jesus offered no defense. No doubt he was accustomed to seeing the accused blubber out a passionate defense when facing his court. Yet, Jesus uttered not a word. Certainly, he must have also marveled at Christ&#8217;s dignity and self-control. He had never seen a man such as this. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"4l116-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"4l116-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"4l116-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"6j0hs-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"6j0hs-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"6j0hs-0-0\">Jesus could have easily offered a verbal defense that would have made Pilate see Him as innocent and His accusers as fools. But Jesus said nothing. Jesus could have responded with a devastating military defense, as He had told Peter when he tried to defend Jesus in the garden, &#8220;Put away your sword. Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?&#8221; (Matt. 26:53). Yet, Jesus took no action.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"61s9k-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"61s9k-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"61s9k-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"r7qg-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"r7qg-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"r7qg-0-0\">As the prophet Isaiah prophesied concerning the Messiah, &#8220;He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth&#8221; (Isa. 53:7). Jesus was silent.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"b5lsb-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"b5lsb-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"b5lsb-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"faftr-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"faftr-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"faftr-0-0\">And as the chorus of Ray Overholt&#8217;s 1958 hymn declares:<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"51iiq-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-offset-key=\"51iiq-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"51iiq-0-0\">&#8220;He could have called ten thousand angels<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"441ih-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"441ih-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"441ih-0-0\"> To destroy the world and set Him free.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"47igo-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-offset-key=\"47igo-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"47igo-0-0\">He could have called ten thousand angels,<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"156nr-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"156nr-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"156nr-0-0\"> But He died alone for you and me.&#8221;<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"bt9ff-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"bt9ff-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"bt9ff-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"bk4da\" data-offset-key=\"faqnj-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"faqnj-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"faqnj-0-0\">PRAYER: Dear Father, we are amazed by Your love that You would send Your only begotten Son to die for our sins. He was silent before His accusers, but today He speaks on our behalf. We are thankful for so great a salvation!
