The 84 year old widow, Anna was looking for the redemption of her people. She fasted, prayed, and spoke of this daily at the temple. Seeing the infant Jesus, she worshiped and gave thanks to God. Where are the modern day people like Anna who are looking for Christ’s return? If the Lord delays, I plan to still be preaching at 84 too.

discipleship
Pastor Gary Combs begins a 5-week sermon series about discipleship entitled “Healthy for Life.” This series is based on Luke 2:52 which says that Jesus grew in four areas. These four areas might be described as the four ways or “B”s of how we can grow more like Jesus. These four “B”s of discipleship are: believing, behaving, becoming, and belonging.

Jesus grew mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. As you look at yourself in these 4 areas, which needs some growth? Are you healthy in these 4 areas? Are you growing more like Jesus?

Pastor Gary Combs continues the NOEL series with this message from Luke’s gospel. In the book of Luke, the birth of Jesus was recorded in its historical context with special attention given to show both the humble circumstances of His birth and the glory of His person as the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of God. In Luke’s gospel the angel of the Lord invites the shepherds to come celebrate the birth of the Messiah. They came and it changed them and all they came into contact with afterwards. The Lord still invites us to come celebrate the Christ. We can say yes to His invitation and invite others to join us by giving and loving like Jesus.

Jesus grew mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. Every year set a couple of goals in each category. Call them your Luke 2:52 goals. Ask God to help you grow more like Jesus. Then, depend on Him for change.
