Doing Discipleship Together

July 9, 2023 | 2 Timothy 2:1-2 | discipleship, life on life discipleship

Many Christians don’t know how to be a disciple and they certainly don’t know how to make one! Many have the wrong impression that discipleship is for super Christians only, as if there were such a thing. But discipleship should be a condition of being a Christian. The fact that the Church has neglected this, that believers have neglected it, thinking they could receive Jesus as Savior without following and obeying Him as Lord, has resulted in a great many believers not experiencing the profound peace and abundant life that Christ came to give.

What can we do? How can we experience the peace and abundant life Christ promises? In the apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy, he instructed him as the pastor of the church at Ephesus to lead them to be a disciple-making church. Christ commands us to be a disciple-making church.

Mobilization over Collection

June 19, 2022 | 2 Timothy 4:1-5 | discipleship, evangelism, gospel

As the American population has increased to 335 million and counting, the church in America has declined, both in attendance and influence. We’re living in the greatest decline of Christianity in our nation and it’s happening on our watch! Why is the church losing ground in our nation? We could blame it on the devil, or the evil in our culture. We could blame it on Hollywood, social media, or the government. But maybe we should take a look in the mirror instead?

In order to reverse this trend, we need to make 4 shifts in priorities to saturate our communities with the gospel. In today’s sermon, we’re going to consider that first priority shift: “Mobilization over Collection.”

Become

January 30, 2022 | 2 Timothy 2:1-2 | discipleship, life on life discipleship

2000 years ago, the Lord Jesus told His disciples to “GO and MAKE DISCIPLES” and He has called His disciples, His church, to be on the move ever since. Because the church is not a place, it’s a people. The church is not a monument, it’s a movement! Today’s message will focus on what it means to become disciples that move to make disciples.

In the apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy, reminded him of the importance of being a disciple who makes disciples of Jesus. We can be disciples who make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Believe

January 23, 2022 | 2 Timothy 1:5-12 | discipleship, evangelism

2000 years ago, the Lord Jesus told His disciples to “GO and MAKE DISCIPLES” and He has called His disciples, His church, to be on the move ever since. Because the church is not a place, it’s a people. The church is not a monument, it’s a movement! Today, we want to focus on the “GO” part of Christ’s command. Because we can’t be part of a movement without going and moving with the gospel. That’s how the Good News moves from one generation to the next. We go and tell others.

In the apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy, he encouraged him to have a fervent passion for sharing the gospel of Jesus. We can have a fervent passion for sharing the gospel of Jesus.

Purpose Matters

June 7, 2020 | 2 Timothy 1:8-9

What matters most begins with deciding whether Christ will be your Master, your Lord. Then second, learning what mission, what purpose, Christ has for your life. Then, who you choose as your mate or who you choose to fellowship with should line up with the first two.

In the apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy, he charged Timothy to fulfill God’s purpose for him in Christ Jesus. We can fulfill God’s purpose for us in Christ Jesus.

Be a Disciple-Making Church

February 19, 2017 | 2 Timothy 2:2 | discipleship, life on life discipleship

Our desire is to be a disciple-making church. Pastor Gary laid out the strategy we have been working on for the past year to be a church full of disciples who are making disciples through our Life On Life Discipleship process. We are following the pattern established by Jesus to pour his life into a few people who then turned the world upside down with relational and strategic relationships, one on one, over the years. The the apostle Paul instructed Timothy in this pattern as well in 2 Timothy 2:2, saying “what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”

Worship and Witness is…Reproducible

October 2, 2016 | 2 Timothy 2:1-7 | discipleship

Do you ever wonder what sort of legacy you are leaving? Do you wonder if people will remember you the way you want to be remembered or some other way? Do you think about what it is that you are really passing on to your kids or your friends or coworkers? In the book of 2 Timothy, Paul tells his disciple Timothy that the grace of Christ can be shared to future generations. Paul teaches that the worship and witness of Jesus Christ is reproducible.

Be Equipped

November 15, 2015 | 2 Timothy 3:16-17 | bible, discipleship

Don’t you wish there was a spiritual “Swiss army knife” to equip us to survive in this sinful world? God has given us His Word, a kind of spiritual survival equipment for the soul. In the apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy, he told Timothy that the Bible had everything he needed to be fully equipped as a Christian. We can be fully equipped with everything we need as Christians through God’s Word.

Not Ashamed To Take Up the Call

November 30, 2014 | 2 Timothy 4 | exposition

In this conclusion of our Not Ashamed sermon series, Pastor Gary Combs goes verse by verse through 2 Timothy 4. Paul charged Timothy not to be ashamed to take up the call of proclaiming God’s Word and fulfilling his ministry until the end. We can hear this same call for our generation to take up the call to the gospel ministry until our time on earth is finished.

Not Ashamed To Rely On God’s Word

November 23, 2014 | 2 Timothy 3 | bible, exposition
